I remember the first time I went to a Forever 21. It was my senior year in high school and my mom took me on a shopping trip to the King of Prussia mall. I had been to France that summer and had seen a Parisian girl in a navy and white polka dot dress with red shoes. For some reason, this is a big, big moment in my love affair with fashion. I think it was at that moment that I was shocked by the unconventionalism of this look. Red shoes? This didn't match and yet... look at how perfect that girl looked! My mom had seen the look in my eye and she knew that I loved that outfit. For the rest of the summer, all I wanted was a navy polka dot dress with red heels. When I went into that Forever 21, I found my dress, and I kept it until a couple of years ago when, through wear and tear, I wore a hole in the cotton fabric.
Forever 21 makes sure to be on top of the trends for a reasonable price. If you want that fur vest, green military jacket, asymentrical skort, you got it. You can always guarantee that there will be a dress you can wear out to make the guys swoon (get it, girl). And you know that you can walk in there with a $50 spending limit and leave with at least one item.
But there are downsides - the quality isn't the greatest and the sizing isn't always appropriate. You might not be 19 anymore, but you still are on the same budget as you were... so why must you be forced to the stores where you can get the same look for triple the price?
Here are my rules for shopping at Forever 21 even if you aren't 21:
1. Use Forever 21 for your trendy items, not your staples. I really want a fur vest. I will not be spending more than $30 on a fur vest, though. While I have yet to see an outfit on a blog with a fur vest that I don't like, I have a hunch that in 3 years, that fur vest will not be seen once in a year. Fashion sometimes is that way, and we have to accept it. I love trying out trends and at that moment, I go to my trendy staple.
2. If you're shopping for professional wear stick to tops/pants - avoid skirts and dresses. I love my dresses from F21. Some are cute and adorable sundresses (my polka dot hi-lo dress, my pink flutter dress, my floral strappy dress, for examples) - but trust me, even at my fun workplace, they would look childish and inappropriate.
3. But if you're going out - F21 has some of the best low price party outfits. Things I've learned in life - if you plan on dancing for hours in dingy, dark places, don't wear your expensive outfits. It'll make you cry in the morning if you're trying to figure out how to get that mysterious sticky substance off your $80 dress.
4. Check out Love 21. It's a great addition to the 21 family with more realistic sizing. The skirts and dresses are longer, the cuts are more flattering for all body types, and the quality is a smidge better.
5. Embrace the huge crazy chaos of the store. It may seem overwhelming but forcing yourself to look through the racks tends to make you try things you didn't know you wanted. You may not end up buying them, but at least you try. And sometimes you find something awesome (like my white peplum top I loveeee). OH! And try on items. Time-consuming, but more worth it with their sizing.
Forever 21 is great if you know how to shop there - and you find one in almost every mall - you never knew you were so freakin' fashionable on a small budget!

| Jacket - Old Navy | Similar | Headband - J.Crew Factory | Similar | Sweater - Forever 21 | Similar | Chambray Top, Jeans, & Booties - Target | Similar Top | Similar Jeans | Similar Booties |
I've been wanting to copy this outfit for a while and when I saw this coat I knew I was ready. Camel is huge in the fall and I love it. For some reason it seems so clean and chic to me. It's warm (unless you plan to wear it during a winter like last) and not too fancy. It's the Goldilocks of coats.
Do you have outfits you see on Pinterest that you like to copy?

This outfit is super comfy, even if it looks badass. The shirt is soft, the jeans are more like leggings, and the booties are well-padded and tend to be warm and easy to walk in. The jacket isn't stiff either so I was super happy the day I wore this to work (one of seven people in the office - womp).
Since I stare at spreadsheets on the regular - about 7 of my 8 hours - I prefer wearing my specs for my poor eyes. A lot of my outfits don't look wonderful with them (just the color and style) but this one fits the bill.
I feel like I should be on Sons of Anarchy. I say this with absolutely no prior knowledge aside for finding Charlie Hunnam delectable. And scene.

I told you I was ready and willing to accept fall. Well, I am... but can I continue to wear bright colors, please? When I saw this sweater at Target, I knew I had to have it - that color is a color of fall! I love the brightness of it and I love my other sweaters like this. Unlike many items I buy from Target (cardigans, for example) they stay soft after multiple washes. I love them. They're comfy & don't break the bank and are awesome for layering. Point - buy one now. You won't regret it!

Lace shorts were on my list of must-haves this summer and I was no disappointed. This was the comfiest party outfit I've had for years. The shorts and shirt were like PJs! Definitely chic. Super cute. Happiest girl in town. They look great with a chambray shirt and booties too. The possibilities were endless.
Not sure if they will be so cute in winter with tights, but it's worth a go. Especially since I feel like 2+ months just wasn't enough time with them!

My favorite television show of all time is Gilmore Girls. During their 100th episode, Emily Gilmore, the grandmother who is impossible to please, tells her daughter Lorelai that it's very important to find a man who has excellent taste in jewelry. Well, I've never made that a large part of my criteria, but it is pretty nice. Boyfriend tends to get me an item or two each Christmas and Birthday for me, and this necklace was one of them. Not only do I love it, but it's something that I probably wouldn't have picked for myself. But I love that he looks at pieces and thinks of me, and that's the best part of all.
Also - the wrap dress is my favorite thing, ever. Like, no lie, I love it. This one is actually a faux wrap, but it is so chic, so comfortable, and just a great classic piece. Thank you, Diane Von Furstenberg. I will always be indebted to you and your fashion creations.

This dress is incredibly out of my comfort zone aside from the polka dots. But I'm definitely glad I made the purchase. It is so light and airy, fits like a charm, and makes me look all nice and dressy when I'm just running errands. It's hard to feel gross and sweaty in this airy outfit. I'm just a little sad to put it away for the fall.

I love this jacket - it's warm and fits well, so I don't have to think much about what I wear underneath. And I love that it does all the talking. No worry business professional. Which worked out well, since I didn't put too much effort into this outfit and ended up going to a talk with the First Lady of Pennsylvania. NBD.

The Dress You Should Have Seen Months Ago
I got this dress months and months ago and yet here I am... showing it to you now. I know. I'm awful. The texture is almost like a burlap and there are very tiny flecks of gold thread woven in giving it a tiny shimmer. It's love. I feel crazy professional in it which makes it like a power dress. What's not to love?
Also: I finally got black suede pumps like Princess Kate, and I must say, I know exactly why they're a go-to.

Closet Organization 101: Clothes & Pinterest
I love organizing. I like to organize my home room by room and then start all over again because I just love organizing. I love it so much that it has become a large part of my job (and no I am not the delusional dater poster child, Ashlee Frazier, "Professional Organizer").
I happen to love MANY types of clothing. Yet there I go, out shopping, and oh, what's that? Another navy top and black dress? We're shocked. Over time, I started realizing that while I had a good amount of clothing, I didn't really know what I owned and didn't realize how many outfits I could make from items in my own closet.
So I decided to take an inventory. Think Cher in Clueless. I went through every item of clothing, decided if I really wanted it, and then wrote it down. I've even organized my list by type: tops, sweaters, athletic wear, dresses, skirts, etc. I then went through my Pinterest board and looked at how many outfits I could make with what was in my closet. I also noted which outfits I could make if I had a certain item and added that to a wishlist. I also looked to see what was a reoccurring theme to my favorite outfits, and added them to the wishlist. Now when I go out shopping, I know what I need and what I don't and I'm not as drawn to my staples. I'm on a mission.
Are you like me and tend to stick in your comfort zone? Do you wish you dressed like your clothing Pinterest board?

Dotted Once
I live within 20 minutes of an H&M. This is so dangerous. Before the move I was an hour and a half a way. That was some serious driving and dedication to get to my Mecca. No it's like NBD, I'll just run to H&M, do a quick run through a voila. My bank account is screwed.
The first trip to my new H&M I purchased this dress and bag (as well as a pair of shorts & a jacket) and I'm so glad I did. This bag carries everything I could ever need but looks super chic and much higher end ("Sarah where did you get that bag?" "H&M" "SHUT UP."). The dress is light and airy but looks nice and polished. It's perfect for a walk in Central Park (that actually happened) and a day at the office without feeling too stuffy.
Also I may or may not have a thing for navy polka dot dresses.

Full of Pep
This is my go to going out AND work outfit. I wear the flats and go simple on the jewelry (as in none) during the day, then add heels and a fun necklace for night. It's wonderful! I feel like maybe I'm a little late on the peplum trend, but I'm fully embracing it. Kind of like my natural ombre look... these pictures are making me quite excited that I have my touch-up scheduled! (And yes, I will admit I highlight my hair - I guarantee most girls do so I might as well embrace it!)

For the Love of Kate (Spade)
Boyfriend & I attended the most gorgeous wedding with this view. It was beautiful. The night was about 60 degrees, too, so everyone was cool, comfortable, and just enjoying a wonderful night in the city. Seriously amazing.
The dress itself was kind of a fairytale. While enjoying our new town, Boyfriend & I stopped into a nice upscale boutique - TMB. They were happening to have a 70% off sale (as luck would have it) and I was drawn to this dress and the jewels on it. I made a crazy decision to try it on - it was the only one left and it looked to be around my size. It fit like a glove. It was meant to be! The LAST ONE on a 70% off sale in MY size? WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?
This dress is staying with me forever. I love it too much. So naturally it had to accompany me to a wedding in Midtown Manhattan. And that's what I call a tale of two love stories.

I love the colors of this dress - they're so bright and cheery! It's definitely a different take on the striped dress. The stripes are actually ribbons which makes it even better and adds some texture.
Happy Hump Day!

I haven't stepped into a Hollister since like... sophomore year college year when I needed to affirm that I was too old for it? Then I went shopping and was looking for Boyfriend's favorite chinos when I saw this dress. I thought it was adorable and on a whim tried it on amidst all the high school girls and their mothers back-to-school shopping. It was meant to be.
I wore this to my parents music festival and again to the Miranda Lambert concert because it's so country and adorable while covering my bum! Just call me T.Swift!
